For children with diarrhea in the past 2 weeks, DIATRPK1 indicates, in response to an open-ended question, whether the child received treatment from a private pharmacy (chemist/medical store). This response category is country-specific to Pakistan.
Some samples in the "DIATR" series include multiple categories that can be consolidated into a single broad response. IPUMS-DHS uses supplemental programming to combine these responses in a standard variable, while also preserving the separate responses in country-specific variables.
DIATRPK1 is combined with DIATRPK2 (private dispenser/compounder) in DIATRPRIVDRUG (all private formal drug sources) for the 2006, 2012, and 2017 Pakistan samples. IPUMS-DHS users interested in using DIATRPK1 are encouraged to review DIATRPRIVDRUG for a more comprehensive response category.
