<p><svar a="all" v="PE07A045"><span class="em">Question 6: What are the bathroom or toilets in the dwelling connected to?</span><br />If the respondent doesn't answer affirmatively to any one of the options 1-5, circle option 6, doesn't have.<br /><span class="em">Public Sewer System</span>. This is the system of pipes located underground on public land by which dwellings rid themselves of human waste. Depending on where the connection to the toilet/bathroom [<span class="lang">servicio higienico</span>] is located (water, toilet, etc.), it may be:<br />[Each of the following six categories below is accompanied by a drawing reproducing the written description.]<br /><div class="i1">1. <span class="ital">Public sewer system within the dwelling</span>. This is when the connection to the toilet/bathroom [<span class="lang">servicio higienico</span>] is located inside the dwelling.<br />2. <span class="ital">Public sewer system outside of the dwelling but within the building complex</span>. This is when the connection to the toilet/bathroom is within the perimeter of the building complex, as is the case of housing units grouped around a blind alley, or shanties built on a vacant lot.<br />3. <span class="ital">Septic tank</span>. This is when human waste is sent directly to a septic tank which is treated with lime, ashes, or other substances which break down the waste. An example of this is muriatic acid, etc.<br />4. <span class="ital">Cesspit, latrine</span>. This is when human waste is sent directly to a pit which is not treated in any way. Don't count the use of bleach/lye or detergents as agents which break down the waste.</div><br /><span class="pg">[p. 33]</span><br /><div class="i1">5. <span class="ital">River, drainage ditch or canal</span>. This is when human waste is disposed of directly into a drainage ditch, river, canal, etc.<br />6. <span class="ital">Doesn't have</span>. This is when the dwelling doesn't have any toilet/bathroom.</div><br /></svar>
