Description

Definition
This variable identifies the detailed codes for Hispanic/Spanish/Latino origin and classifies people according to their country of origin when possible. Origin is defined as ancestry, nationality group, or country of birth. People of Hispanic origin may be of any race; see race (US10A437) for a discussion of coding issues involved.

The detailed code variable (3 digits) distinguishes additional groups and subgroups, compared with the general code version. See Hispanic origin rule (US10A462) for details on how country of origin information was assigned.
