Description

Definition
This variable indicates the relationship of the respondent to the household head.
Category 18 refers to all the people who are called "inderster" in the Norwegian censuses. According to the Norwegian Historical Encyclopedia this means "A person who lodges in another person's house, but has his own household". To separate them from the people who are called lodgers in the source, they are coded as 18 and not 16 (lodgers) in the censuses. Most of them cannot be coded as non-relatives, because looking at the second Norwegian code (FamII), some of them are connected to family relationship codes like 7 (Child-in-law), 8 (Grandchild), and 9 (Parent, parent-in-law). The second Norwegian relationship code has not been transcribed and is not available in NAPP.
